Description
Looking for inclusive text pairings for your 9th grade curriculum? These curated lists for common 9th grade texts, like The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Outsiders, and The Giver, will help add more voices to your core texts.
Each list includes ideas and activities for inclusive text pairings:
⭐️ Songs
⭐️ Poems
⭐️ Documentaries
⭐️ Art
⭐️ Podcast episodes
⭐️ TED Talks
⭐️ and more!
Each curated list represents 15+ hours of research. You can use any of these text suggestions as you plan your unit 🙂
For each text, we share easy changes, like paired texts you can incorporate on a budget or for free. We also share more difficult changes, like substitutions you could request in the future.
We are not saying that you need to replace every text; we want to continue a dialogue on how to make curricula more inclusive!
This resource was co-created by Danielle Hall from Nouvelle ELA and Sheila Frye from Teaching Literacy.
