Goals for the Summer

My Goals for the Summer

This summer, I am focusing on three major goals:

1. Learn Spanish

We recently (5 weeks ago!) moved from Philadelphia to San Juan, Puerto Rico (thank you, Coast Guard!) and have been “coasting” as far as Spanish goes. We currently live in the very touristy area of San Juan, and everyone can identify us as gringos – no problem! Even if I try to speak Spanish, people will often reply in English because it’s faster/easier/they want to practice.

My goal is to get much, much better. As I discussed in my post, 5 Ways that I’m a Terrible Student, I am an awful Spanish student. I have been working on Spanish somewhat for a year now, and we lined up a tutor here, too. I already speak French and some German, and I learned both of those “in the trenches”, as it were, while studying in France. I wasn’t really properly motivated to learn Spanish until we got here, and I will definitely put in more effort this summer.

2. Take my TeachersPayTeachers store to the next level

I have counted myself successful this year so far, since I am earning more than I did last year and even had my Characterization Detective Freebie featured in the newsletter. Still, I want to take my store to the next level. I will be attending the TeachersPayTeachers conference in Vegas in hopes of doing just that. Here’s what I hope to learn:

*How to engage followers more effectively
*How to market new products
*How to prioritize social media tasks

Are you going to the conference? I’d love to meet up!

3. Read, read, read!

I am trying to read more, and read widely. What do I mean by this? Well, last year, when students asked me for book recommendations, I realized that I really only enjoyed reading a couple of genres, and thus couldn’t offer them much insight if they had other interests. Like I said in my Summer Reading post, I’m using NetGalley to try and read a wider variety of books.

As you can see, I didn’t read very much at all last year, and I only read 49 books in 2013. I am hoping to get to 100 this year, and to step outside of my usual YA Fantasy/Dystopian fare. Do you have any book recommendations? I’d love to hear them!

What are your goals this summer?

Thank you so much to Monica @ I Heart Grade 3 for hosting this blog link-up. Check out all of the other wonderful goal-setting!

    Hello there Danielle!

I am so glad that you participated in my first ever linky party! Thanks for being a part of my blogging adventure this summer!

Hopefully we will be able to meet up in Vegas. I am so looking forward to meeting as many people as I can… and that includes you!

Have a great evening and I hope to see you linked up again throughout the summer!

Thank you SO MUCH for reaching out to me to participate, Monica. Did you know that you can share an in-linkz code so that the linky party shows up on multiple blogs? (This would drive even more traffic to each blog, and you can assure through inlinkz that your entry always appears first) If you choose to go this route for next week, I’d love to be able to use the code and feature the party at the bottom of my entry.
